AFA together with the recipients of the AFA Research Grant is now working on a research project focusing on development of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the Southeast Asia region.
 
With the research tittle “A Study on Key Institutional Environment of Small and Medium Enterprises and Expected Roles of Accounting Profession in ASEAN”, the objective of this research among others are:

• To explore and establish the parameters of current approaches to regulating/defining SMES in the ASEAN region, compare with other jurisdictions, and identify similarities/differences and best practice.
• To identify existing accounting and financial management practices in place for SMEs in ASEAN, and strategies available to accounting professional bodies in the ASEAN region to support and enhance the potential of SMEs.
• To identify key financial, accounting and management needs of SMEs in ASEAN, resources and training for accountants in the region, and training and educational supports needed by SMEs or by SME accountants to understand the business implications of SMEs and IFRS for SMEs as a mechanism for accessing alternative sources of finance.

In order to enrich the quality of this research, we are pleased to invite participation of all SMEs, SMPs, accountants and relevant stakeholders in Southeast Asia to participate in this research.
